Do you know this moment?
A moment when you walk in the corridor, and there is this person that you’ve met before. You don’t know him enough to say hello, or you think that he should say it first. The same is true for this person. You glimpse at him while walking; he does the same to you, nothing happens. However, if you try to concentrate on your emotions and focus on other person’s behavior, you’ll find the strength of this moment. You’ll be able to observe the forces that both attract and repel you.
I was walking in the corridor then there was this girl. I met her before, we talked once, like six months ago.
I looked at her, she looked at me. I didn’t want to say hello or something. I just observed (I enjoy observing world around me).
No, No, I didn’t stare or anything, I hate when people do this. I just glimpsed at her two or three times.
The last glimpse was a bit longer than 3 seconds. I looked directly in her eyes. I was full with anticipation. What would happen?
Then, I saw her eyes, she was looking directly at me,
I continued looking, and I saw for a short instant in her eyes confusion, question, and doubt. Her eyes started looking for another fixed point,
in an attempt to break the short connection formed between us for 1 or 2 seconds.
Finally, she looked at the floor.
We passed each other and never met again.
You may call me weird, but once you try it yourself, you’ll understand what I’m talking about.
I can hear it. Her voice, Her calm and sweet voice. She looks at me and smiles.
No, no. Please don’t… Look at the floor. Hide my eyes.
Oh noo! My, My hands are shaking, my heart starts beating faster.I know this feeling,
It’s the same as the first time I saw her
Quick,This feeling, I should suppress it. I should destroy it before it takes control of my entire body.
She is calling me!! She wants to talk to me!
No, I can’t, I should not. She is a real one!!!!
If I talk to her, it will destroy the divine statue of her that I built in these years, these sleepless nights.
I can’t talk to her. If I do, it will destroy her. The statue that I carefully shaped in my imagination.
This perfect being that I visit in my lucid dreams.
I cannot kill her, the ideal her is too precious for me. Virtual her is my goddess,
The real one is just ugly attempt to…. She is just human, like me, and everybody else.
No, no, no.. She is calling me again! What should I do?
She is approaching. Fast, think, I should protect my creation, once and for all.
I feel this power, she is giving it to me. I and my creation will be together till I die!
Each time, I close my eyes, I see you, The perfect you!
She touches my shoulder. I quickly turn, and jump on her.
I squeeze her neck with my hands, I’m not shaking anymore. I know what needs to be done.
I look at her eyes, I see her soul living this flesh, she is nothing, just human, like you and me.
She stops resisting after two minutes.
I let her human body go, it hits the floor, everyone is looking at me,
I don’t care, I protected my goddess, my creation, nothing will separate us anymore and nothing can harm us.
I close my eyes…
She is there, looking at me and smiling.
Her calm and sweet voice….
Where am I?
It’s cold and dark out here. It smells terrible, I cannot breath.
I hear slowly approaching footsteps. I feel this.
He is here. What do I do? I cannot move.
No, he knows where I am. Some one help me!
Don’t, Don’t do this to me. No, don’t cut me. AHHHHhhh My body, my body is ….
He left. When will it all end? I can’t take it anymore. I won’t last long.
I don’t wanna die, I’m too young and … Why it’s me not someone else?
God please! Save me!
If we observe the development of humanity through ages of human evolution, we are going to notice the same pattern, search for uniqueness. Everyone wants to be different and must be different; this can be easily observed in every written book, conversation, and movie. However, this search for uniqueness is the eternal source of human problems because difference creates instability.
Asymmetric world is unstable, for the parts of such system are always changing. Think about it, what is harder to control, herd of sheep or herd of sheep mixed with wolves and elephants. Obviously, the second herd cannot even exist in nature, but if it existed, then it would be impossible to control, since wolves eat sheep. Now, let’s think about human society: we have social hierarchy and tend to stay in groups. This herd behavior is called the human herd. Sheep herd is a symmetric system which can be easily controlled by dogs, for their behavior fallows the same pattern, since they are all the same and respond in the same way to stimuli. On the other hand, human society is an asymmetric system because it is composed from individuals whose values and interest change unpredictably. Thus, making it really hard to control. However, the difference between individuals creates conflicts and leads to social instability. To eliminate the social conflicts and make society easy to control, government is installed and propaganda of certain values is made.
Different social movements are fighting this system, the most popular of them are Anarchists and Anonymous. These social movements go against the homogenization of culture and society and promote uniqueness and critical thinking. In the same time, they are destabilizing current social system by increasing the gap between humans; thus, creating fertile soil for social conflicts on different levels and destroying current human civilization.
The modern progress of humanity is due to the homogenization of cultures and individuals. For example, the promotion of consumerism among people supplement economical growth of many countries. Also, the promotion of common ideology – democracy and human rights- makes wars less frequent among countries who accepted it. No one would fight with oneself (by this I mean no one would attack another person whose believes are completely similar to one’s). In addition, this homogenization permits to humans to focus on the specific fields of research making the results faster to achieve, for the task is accomplished faster if there are 20 people working on it, than if there is only one human.
It’s clear that humans have chosen symmetric system which for certain boosts our chances of survivor and progress. However, one question worries me: Is the loss of individuality for the sake of human progress worth it?
All of the marketing strategies are based on the priming effect. Priming effect is the psychological trick which uses human inability to control associative activation: the term used to describe when one idea evokes other associated ideas, launching a domino chain. Also, one must agree, ideas provoke action and change in psychological state. For example, when you think about sex, you will experience specific emotions, and you may take certain actions. To sum up, publicity uses different stimuli to prime (the process of applying priming effect) a consumer to a specific type of emotions and actions.

Each time you go to a library, you see different individuals sitting there and reading books. Those people can be classified according to their motivations: students, book lovers, and pass timers.
Students, the first type, spend their whole day learning in the library. They come to the library to do assignments, to complete research papers, or to review their notes. They can be easily identified by their MacBook Pro laptops and tired faces. Also, they usually have different scientific books on their tables. For example, if you see a person who has a laptop and book with a title Algebra and Trigonometry by Robert F. Blitzer, the person that you are looking at will certainly be a student.
The second type is book lovers. They enjoy reading various book genres: novel, crime, fiction, mystery etc. Also, they are passionate thinkers. If you see a person who reads a book for an hour then puts it away, and stares at floor, this person will probably be a book lover. You may see them in the library, especially during weekends.
On the other hand, there are people who don’t care about reading and books; they are called pass timers. They come to the library because they have nothing else to do, their favorite activities in the library are sleeping in a chairs, observing people through book shelf, and showing off by taking a large book with a sophisticated title.
Next time, if you see a guy with a big philosophy book who reads it by quickly turning pages, you will know what he is really doing. Hopefully, this classification may help you to find out who is sitting next to you in the library.
